Restaurants

By Laurie on Oct 29, 2011 in Food
There are plenty of restaurant options in this area. You can find anything from a locally run shack (for lack of a better word) to high end resort restaurants. While Holetown has the highest number of places to eat, if you head out of town you can find plenty of options stretched along the road. Try some of the cheap roti in Paynes Bay.

There's also a Super Center at the West Coast Mall in Holetown if you're looking to do some of your own cooking. They have almost anything you could want, so picky up a few essentials and cooking a few meals yourself will definitely save you some money.

Getting Around Barbados

By Laurie on Oct 29, 2011 in Local Transportation
If you rent a car, remember that driving is on the left in Barbados. There's a very thorough bus system throughout the entire country so it's easy to get to many places. Unfortunately, if you want to get to out of the way places you'll have to rent a car. For buses there are two options. The blue buses are run by the Barbados Transport Board and they are the quietest option. There are also several private bus options that travel with music and tend to drive a little more recklessly. The fare for either option is BD$2.00, so take your pick.

Rum Tours!

By Bryan on Oct 28, 2011 in Entertainment
Real rum aficionados and people just interested in rum should check out the Mount Gay Rum Distillery Tour. The primary crop of Barbados, is sugarcane, which they refer to as "rum in the first phase." You can see how they make it into the final product at the distillery. They have different types of tours. A short hour long tour for $7 US is every hour. Cocktail tours last 2 hours and there's a contest at the end where participants make their own cocktails with the rum and other ingredients. There are the more expensive lunch tours which include an outdoor Bajan lunch. And of course, rum.
