Travel is about the experiences. You see the sights, you meet the people, you embrace the adventures. And you eat the food. Cuisine is a quintessential part of travel, and for some cities, it’s one of the highlights. Below we’ve reviewed some cities known for their unique, and of course, delicious cuisines.
A few months ago, recently married couple Skott and Shawna left their home in Saskatchewan to travel the world for a year or more. That sounds like a nice little honeymoon to us! They started in England and then ventured over to the mainland where they’ve taken in some terrific sites on their journey, including a 35-day hike along the Camino de Santiago. We caught up with them in Morocco to find out what else they’ve been up to and how their trip is coming along.
This week’s Photo Friday pics come from Lindsay Paris and feature the amazing country of Cambodia. If you haven’t visited it yet, add it to your list!
As fellow citizens of Austin, Texas for the last year, we first met Shaun and Erica during the planning stages for Austin’s Meet Plan Go event. We quickly learned that we had a lot in common, specifically a mutual love for travel. Not too long ago, Shaun and Erica made their dreams a reality: they quit their jobs, sold off most of their stuff, and took the road south from the U.S.A. with no plans to come home anytime soon. It sounds pretty incredible, especially since they gave up dream jobs working for a popular video game company. But now they are wandering through Honduras, living the long-term travel dream.
As we walked through the Temple of Heaven park in Beijing, we realized that we had to do what everyone eventually must do: use the toilet. After roaming through the stunningly beautiful temples and immaculate gardens, we realized that it had, well, been awhile since the last time. You know how it goes….
Beijing is a masterpiece of human culture. We spent about two weeks in the city, fell in love with it, and watched the old mix with the new. Residents bike up and down the hutong alleyways while new cars zip along the wide boulevards past rising skyscrapers. We’ve all heard that China is growing at a phenomenal pace, but you have to see it in person to fully understand the transformation.
Here are some photos from our recent travels in this amazing city.
This week we’re showing a few more photos from our adventure through Mongolia….
Here are a few photos of our most recent location in Pingyao, China. It’s truly an old and fascinating town, so check it out if you happen to be in the area.
If you are planning a trip to Turkey, or anywhere near Turkey, Cappadocia should definitely be on your list of places to see. Located in the Nevsehir province, this popular tourist destination boasts beautiful geological formations and landscapes, providing the perfect getaway for an adventurous, curious traveler. In addition to breathtaking views, the region of Goreme (smaller town within Nevsehir), also hosts ancient churches, with frescoes dating back to the 9th century. If you have already planned a trip to Istanbul, this could provide you and your traveling companions with a great getaway outside the hustles and bustles of beautiful, but busy Istanbul. I have provided some tips on where to stay in Goreme and how to get there from any major Turkish city.
After a few weeks in China, we’ve learned a great deal about this amazing country. Here are a few tips for navigating this behemoth of a nation with so much to see and do.
