A Variety of Options

Chile is a wonderful country to visit, and has much to offer travelers. Hotels and hostels are spread throughout this narrow country, and you will easily find accommodation that suits your taste in most of the popular tourist destinations. You can find some of the most recognized western chains including, Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt, and the Holiday Inn. You will also find hostels tucked away in many neighborhoods. Whatever your travel style, you are likely to find something that meets your needs in Chile.

In the mountainous ski areas you will find world class resorts such as Portillo, which is only 80 kilometers north of Santiago. Termas de Chillan ski resort and hot springs is further away, about 450 kilometers south of Santiago, but well worth the trip.
Tips to Save Money

There are plenty of accommodation options in Chile. You can really spend as much money as you want to ensure you get the quality hotel you are looking for. The strategy for saving money on accommodation in Chile is similar to what you might do in the United States. There are more hostels available in Chile than there are in the US and they offer some great cost cutting opportunities. If you want to stay at a chain hotel, you may be able to get a package deal that combines your flight and hotel into one cost. Do keep in mind that you will likely spend less if you don't choose a western chain hotel however. Look into some local options and you will probably get more bang for your buck. Do read some reviews, as the quality is not guaranteed, so you don't want to be disappointed. Also consider traveling in the off season when prices drop dramatically.
Types of Accommodation

Accommodation in Chile is comparable in style and type to many other countries. You will find hotels of every level and cost. There are guesthouses, hostels, and in rural areas some campgrounds. If you're interested in skiing there are a variety of ski resorts that can offer you a wonderful experience. If you're traveling to Santiago you will find almost every type of accommodation, and many western chains that are easily recognizable. There are hostels spread throughout the city into many different neighborhoods. Do some research ahead of time to know which neighborhood best meets your needs. Chile also has some wonderful, quaint hotels that are quite small and offer a lot of character. It's a great way to step outside of the mainstream options and experience a unique side of this country. They are usually of high quality and more affordable than their mainstream counterpart, making them a wonderful option for those on a budget who still want to travel in style.
Santiago

Santiago, Chile has plenty of budget accommodation options in the form of hostels and small guesthouses. There are also some great apartment options available if you're looking for more privacy but still want to have access to a kitchen and living space. One of the popular areas to stay in is near the trendy neighborhood of Bellavista. There you will find plenty of restaurants and activities to keep you entertained. Many hostels include breakfast in the price of the bed, but this should be confirmed ahead of time. Many also have access to wireless internet for guests, televisions, and common areas where guests can chat and get to know each other.

Mid-range accommodation options are also plentiful in Santiago. Many of the furnished apartments around town fall into this category. The apartments often include a fully furnished kitchen, a living space, and at least one bedroom.
