Senegal Tourist Information
This West African country is a diverse area, from the bustle and crowded chaos of its capital city, Dakar, to the village life around Kedougou, and the beach areas near Palmarin. It's a challenging country to travel around with frequent transportation strikes and older vehicles, but it offers you some unique insights into the challenges and thrills of living in an African country. A former French colony, the predominate second language is French. It can be difficult to find someone who speaks English, so it does help if you know a few French words.

There are some beautiful and interesting national parks, but you go to Senegal more for the people than the wildlife. Music and dance are a prominent part of the culture and there are many music festivals throughout the year that are great to experience.

Travel Tips for Senegal

Buses and Sept-Places in Senegal

By backpackguru (Photographic Voyage) on Nov 16, 2011 in Intercity Transportation
Senegal transportation can be quite challenging. You have a few options, some better than others, but none are wonderful. It's important to remember while you're at the bus station that vehicles absolutely will not leave until they are full (by African standards, meaning absolutely stuffed full). Sept-places, or seven seaters, hold less people, are more expensive, and are far more comfortable than buses. Buses are cheaper, painfully crowded, and actually fill up quicker than sept-places. Most people in Senegal choose the most affordable option, so it's rare you'll see an expensive option fill up before the cheap choice.
