Bled
Bled is an incredibly scenic place, with a beautiful lake that is an emerald green color. There's a small island in the middle of the lake on which you'll find a nice white chapel. The lake is surrounded by striking green mountains among which you'll find the Bled Castle overlooking the scene. Bled also offers access to the nearby Triglav National Park, a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies. Within the national park you'll find countless waterfalls, gorgeous and the lovely Lake Bohinj. You can find plenty of opportunities for mountain climbing, rafting, and hiking. There's even a cable car if you're looking for an easy way to get some good views of the mountains and landscape.
You can easily walk around Bled and if you're hoping to get out on the water and explore there are several options. A pletna boat is the traditional way of traveling to the lake's island. It is fun to ride an and looks similar to a large gondola. You can purchase round trip tickets for about twelve euros a person. Do expect to have to wait for the boat to fill up with about ten passengers before you depart. It's an hour and a half trip in total and you'll have about half an hour on the island to explore. Another fun option to make the trip to the island is to rent your own rowboat.
There are several interesting festivals in town every year. Three of the most popular include Bled Days, which takes place the fourth weekend in July, Okarina Etno Festival, with traditional folk music the first weekend in August, and the International Music Festival Bled in early July.
There are many restaurants in town, a large number of which are attached to hotels. You'll find some free standing restaurants as well, so when possible, seek those out. Also make sure you try the local specialty, kremna rezina, which is a sweet cake made of vanilla custard and cream.
