South Korea is a very modern and cosmopolitan country on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. It's one of the most densely populated countries in the world, yet currently has a very low birthrate. There is a large Christian and Buddhist population. Koreans enjoy sports, with some of their favorites being baseball, soccer, and badminton.

While historically, the Korean culture has been strongly influenced by the Chinese, however, their cuisine, spoken language, and written language are very different.

Many people overlook South Korea as a travel destination because it is considered modern, but it still offers a unique perspective into the Asian culture. It's also easily accessible in route to other travel destinations throughout Asia.

Korean Demilitarized Zone: An area covering 2 kilometers between North and South Korea that has been established by a 1953 cease-fire agreement.
Gyeongju: The former capital of Silla, with a strong history that it holds on to.
Jeju Island: Off the southern coast of Korea, this island is a top honeymoon destination both inside and outside of Korea.

Kimchi: An accompaniment to most Korean meals, it's made from fermented cabbage and chili, and can be very spicy.
Banchan: A assortment of side dishes that come with most meals and includes a lot of sauces and vinegar based vegetables.
Bulgogi: A type of Korean barbeque that uses marinated meats.
