Indonesia Hotels and Hostels

Indonesia is undeniably one of the most exotic destinations you can visit. It has stunning beaches, opulent resorts, and incredible food. The landscape, both by the beach and inland, is stunning, and filled with adventure and thrill seeking opportunities.

There are also an incredible range of hotel options throughout the country. It's as diverse as the travelers themselves. There are high end, luxury resorts that will cater to your every need. There are hostels and budget guesthouses that cost little more than a few dollars, and then there's everything in between. If you're interested in staying in a western chain hotel, that is an option as well. You can find many of the popular chains including the Hyatt, Ramada, and the Four Seasons. Most of these facilities are located on the island of Bali, which remains the most popular destination in Indonesia for travelers.
Finding the Best Prices

It is really not difficult to find affordable accommodation in Indonesia. If you're flexible and willing to step outside of your comfort zone a little, you can really get back on a limited budget in Indonesia. If you decide to spend a little more, you can get great quality for your money.

One of the best ways to save money in Indonesia is to avoid western chain hotels. Your dollar will go a lot farther if you find a locally owned hotel. You'll also have a more "real" experience while you're in this incredible country. Accommodation is also cheaper if you stay further away from the beaches. It may prove to be a little less convenient, but it can also be enjoyable, particularly if you find a hotel in a more residential and local neighborhood. Also remember the general rule of thumb that you get what you pay for. If you're not willing to sacrifice a little on comfort, then perhaps it is better to pay a little more. Prices are quite cheap in Indonesia, but if you want a luxury resort, you still won't find it on a backpacker budget.
Types of Accommodation

Indonesia has an incredible range of accommodation style, type, and budgets. There is no shortage of high end luxury hotels and resorts where you can pamper yourself and dine along the beautiful Indonesian coastline. Alternatively, you can find the most basic accommodation type for travelers on the tightest budgets. Don't be surprised by the squat toilets and lack of air conditioning (and in some cases, a fan), but you'll probably spend most of your time on the beach anyway.

When you're outside of the major tourist destinations you'll find your options much more limited. The most common option is the losmen, or guesthouse. These are basic facilities that are usually under ten dollars in price and give you little more than a squat toilet and a place to sleep. A step above losmen are the small hotels you often find in the smaller towns. They are generally Chinese run and usually come with air conditioning and hot water.
