Located on the lake, and just a bit outside of the city center lies this terrific hostel with plenty of great features. There are plenty of beds in dorms of 4 beds as well as private 2-bed rooms, all with balconies (great views!) and shared bathrooms.
The communal kitchen is available for those wishing to cook, and the common areas are large, comfortable, and spacious. Foosball and table tennis are available for entertainment, as are other games, books, and more. Internet and laundry are also on offer.
The friendly and helpful staff can provide everything you need, plus book tours and activities and give travel advice for Lucerne and beyond.

A quiet hostel for solo travelers, couples, and families

This large hostel just outside of the city center receives many positive reviews from former guests. They have dorm rooms of various sizes, including a huge 20-bed room. Bunks have individual lights and plugs, and are modern and comfortable. Private rooms are also available, including some with ensuite bathrooms.
The list of amenities is long. As this is larger hostel, they have plenty of common space. A pool table, table tennis, TVs, and other entertainment options can be found. Internet, laundry, and a friendly staff to help with travel advice round out the list.
And don't forget about the free breakfast buffet
! The onsite restaurant also serves other meals, and coffee and tea are also available. They also have parking for cars, and bike rental to help you get around town.
The location is good, as it's not far from the city center and is close to public transit.

A former prison, now a hotel for solo travelers and couples
As a former prison building transformed into a hotel/hostel, this option provides a great historical experience, and is also in a convenient location! The hotel is right in the middle of the city and is within walking distance to everything Lucerne has to offer.
Rooms of various sizes and prices are available, from dorm-like bunks to larger private rooms. Most rooms have their own ensuite bathrooms. Keep in mind that this was a prison, and rooms are small, simple, and stark. They offer free Wi-Fi, luggage storage, a great breakfast (cost is extra), helpful tourist information, and more.
The rooms do not have TVs or much else, as the hotel wants to keep the feeling of the historic prison as much as possible.
An onsite nightclub opens on weekends, and guests receive free entry.
Guests leaving reviews provide positive and negative stories involving cleanliness, a disorganized staff which is sometimes friendly and sometimes not, and noise on the weekends from the night club.

A good distance outside of Lucerne is this large resort complex with a waterpark and plenty of other amenities for all types of travelers, including families. Dorms are available even though the appearance of this resort is more like a hotel. Rooms come in various sizes and prices, so something is available for everyone.
They also have a restaurant and bar, as well as a small grocery store. A gym, hot tub, sauas, and a spa are available as well.
It's worth a look if you need to get way from history or culture for a while.
