No matter how much you love your job, the daily grind starts to wear on you after a while. More than one of us spends time thinking about a dream vacation when we should be working.

But only some of us will ever act on those plans and take that trip they daydream about. Why shouldn’t you be one of those that travels to exciting places?

One reason why people may never take their dream vacation is because they don’t know where to go. The world is full of beautiful and exotic places. Sometimes the array of choices itself is paralyzing.

To help you with that, we’ll share 5 reasons why a dream vacation to Costa Rica is a great idea. Who knows? This diverse little country might be the perfect destination to stop dreaming about and actually tick off your bucket list.

Let’s get started!

1. The Beaches (Duh!)

What’s the first thing you think of when dreaming about a vacation? For most of us, it’s a warm, sandy beach. There just something so alluring about the sound of the surf and the feel on the tropical sun on your skin.

Costa Rica has some of the most amazing beaches in the world! In the Guanacaste region, you can visit a pink sand beach or one that is made up of shells!

On the Pacific coast, you can visit the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. The stunning beaches in this area, along with the park itself drew almost half a million visitors in 2017. There’s a good reason for that!

Not to be outdone, the Caribbean coast has its own brand of beautiful. In fact, the lovely Punta Uva beach earned a TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Award for 2018 as one of the top 25 beaches in the world! Manuel Antonio enjoyed this prestigious title last year but now it needs to step up its game.

Needless to say, regardless of which beach you choose to visit in Costa Rica during your dream vacation, you won’t be disappointed!

2. The Sunsets

Sunsets are spectacular in many places in the world. Different places each have their own vibe and their own particular pizzazz.

Sunsets in a tropical place like Costa Rica are rich and varied. The color palette is outstanding and a little bit different every day.

Many people love the sunsets during the summer on the Pacific coast. Most of the time there’s not a cloud in the sky and the sun is a beautiful glowing orb dipping into the ocean.

Other people love the rainy season sunsets. They tend to be more hit and miss as sometimes there are too many clouds to see the sun well. But the right amount of clouds create interesting patterns and splash color all across the sky making them more varied than their dry season counterparts.

Regardless, no one can deny the beauty of the sunsets in Costa Rica.

3. The Biodiversity

One of the biggest draws for vacationers is the biodiversity that you can see in Costa Rica. It’s a small country, accounting for only .03% of the world’s landmass. But, living within its borders is almost 6% of the world’s biodiversity.

That means that if biodiversity were directly proportional to landmass, Costa Rica has almost 200 times its share!

If your dream vacation involves seeing exotic animals, butterflies, birds, and big cats, you should consider a visit to Costa Rica.

4. The Ease of Travel

Another great reason to take a dream vacation to Costa Rica is the ease of travel. It’s easy to get to from the US–many cities offer direct service so it’s an easy flight. It’s also fairly inexpensive, especially from southern and eastern US cities.

The tourism industry is well-developed and there are plenty of options for travelers. You can take small planes to many popular areas. If you prefer land travel there are plenty of shuttle services, buses, private transports, and taxis to be found.

Costa Rican currency can be a bit confusing at first. But the good news is that in most places you won’t need it. Many establishments, especially in tourist areas, accept US dollars–though you do have to be careful not to get ripped off in the exchange. However, anywhere with an electronic cash register like a grocery store will automatically give you the current rate of exchange.

You don’t even need to speak Spanish well to get around easily. It does help, of course, but many tour companies offer English-speaking guides. Tourist areas are full of folks that speak English and Costa Ricans are very welcoming and friendly.

Have a question? Just ask, someone will be sure to help you.

5. The Culture

Costa Ricans have a rich culture and are very proud of it. They greatly value the freedom and peace that they’ve had as a free nation for nearly 200 years.

This line from the national anthem sums up their values well. “Viva siempre el trabajo y la paz” which means “may work and peace live forever.”
