Open House Barra is a favorite hostel to stay at in Salvador, Brazil. It's run by artists and it is part of the ORG Brazilian Art & Culture Association nonprofit. This organization develops social awareness documentaries and provides educational programs for children in low income communities. If you'd like to volunteer for any of their projects, free accommodation may be available.
The hostel is located in a safe part of the city where you can walk to many different things. The beach and Carnival are not far away. Also nearby you'll find banks, grocery stores, and shopping. They often offer dance and capoeira classes to guests for free. There are also many activities and workshops that you can participate in including dance, music, or language programs.
