What is Mer de Glace?

Mer de Glace, or Sea of Ice, is one of the largest and most famous glaciers in the Alps, located near Chamonix, France. This majestic ice formation stretches for about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) and descends from the slopes of Mont Blanc. Visitors can reach the Mer de Glace by taking the historic Montenvers Railway from Chamonix, followed by a scenic hike or cable car ride down to the glacier. Once there, visitors can explore ice caves, learn about glaciology at the Glaciorium museum, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Families with children will sometimes enjoy it, but it really depends on their level of interest. It's not particularly romantic for couples, but not bad either. Budget travelers and backpackers usually enjoy visiting the park, too.
