Amalfi is worth visiting for two to seven days so that you can explore everything that the town has to offer. We first visited in the summer of 2010 and have returned several times. During our time here, we fell in love with the charming towns, wonderful coastal setting, and excellent limoncello. Amalfi is a stunning town that sits at the middle of the Amalfi Coast, making it a great base for exploring the entire area. The town is filled with beautiful buildings and nearby there are stunning viewpoints. Everyone from families to honeymooners consider this to be a world class destination.

Reasons to Visit Amalfi

Food
The town's access to the beautiful sea means that many dishes use a variety of seafood. Eggplant is also a common ingredient and you'll find everything from pastas to elegant desserts around town.

Nightlife
There's a good number of bars and clubs in town that often have live music or DJs. Alternatively, there are also clubs that dot the entire coastline.

Historical Sights
The town is charming and filled with great shops and restaurants. It's the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast.

Hiking
The coastline is filled with great trails that offer stunning views. Hiking is a top way to see the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast and catch a glimpse at some of the best beaches.

Museums
The town is an attraction in and off itself. It's filled with charm and character and visitors spend much of their time simply walking around and soaking up the atmosphere.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
You'll find snorkeling trips that take you along the coastline and stop at several places so you can take a peak at the underwater world.

Beaches
The beaches tend to be pebbly and rocky. During the summer months they can get very crowded, but taking a swim is a great way to escape the heat for a bit.

Shopping
You'll find many great shops that sell everything from clothing to fine wine, local foods, or limoncello.




Is Amalfi worth visiting in the Summer?

The warm weather in summer is one of the reasons people visit at this time of year. Temperatures average around 23°C (74°F) with daily high temperatures often more than 30°C (85°F).

The peak season for travel is summer in Amalfi, so expect to see more tourists than usual. This destination is very popular with tourists, and in the high season it's even busier than usual as this is when most people like to visit. Expect tourist crowds to be very large, and prices to be higher than normal. However, there's plenty to do here this time of year, too.

The nearby hiking this time of year is a must-do, so take some time to get out on the trails, take in some fresh air, and enjoy the scenery. You'll also find it quite easy to get around on foot, because this is a very walkable town, especially in the nice weather. This is a great time of year to relax at the beach, get out into nature, and wander through the museums. Also, you'll be able to admire the historic sights and enjoy the evening activities.

Is Amalfi worth visiting in the Autumn?

Autumn is the shoulder season for travel in Amalfi. This is an extremely touristy destination, so in the shoulder season you'll still see plenty of other tourists when you visit. However, good prices and deals are to be found on hotels and tours.

Keep in mind that it can be fairly rainy during autumn, and temperatures hover around 17°C (63°F).

Soaking up that old town charm in the autumn is one of the favorite activities of visitors. The quaint scenery combined with the weather this time of year is quite nice. You'll find plenty to do during autumn, as you'll be able to admire the wonderful scenery, browse around the old town, and browse through museums. Also, you can experience the hiking.

Is Amalfi worth visiting in the Winter?

This is the low season for travel in Amalfi. This is an extremely touristy destination, so in the low season you'll still see plenty of other travelers when you visit, but less than other times of the year. Good deals are to be found on hotels and tours because it's not the best time of year to visit.

The weather in Amalfi can be quite cold during winter, and averages around 8°C (47°F). But be prepared for much lower temperatures, too.

During this season it's fun to experience the famous sights and museums, the cuisine, and the historic old town. Also, you can enjoy an evening out.

Amalfi sees a high number of visitors every year, which means you might have to wait in line and deal with large crowds during your visit.

Not As Family-Friendly
While there are some family activities, it's not as child-friendly as other destinations.
