What makes Singapore a budget-friendly destination? Or not?

We stayed at a nice hotel with a rooftop pool that was a fraction of the price we'd pay at home. It definitely helped that the exchange rate was in our favor.

Southeast Asia is really popular with backpackers, so there are tons of hostels around town. We loved the social atmosphere of the place we stayed.

I think prices have risen, as I found hotels to be more than I thought they would be. I ended up staying in a great place with a pool and it was really modern, and it was a good deal compared to my home country. But it was still a bit pricey. For cheaper meals I found restaurants away from the harbour and ate at some of the market areas which were also a lot of fun.
