Via Amsterdam

Located on a university campus, you'll quickly feel like a student again staying at Via Amsterdam. There's a very mellow vibe here and the staff are professional but relaxed. Informal activities make the evenings fun and it's easy to meet other travelers if you're traveling alone.

This hostel is clean and modern at an affordable price. It's a ways outside of the city center, but everything's accessible by public transit or you could rent a bike and get around like the locals do.

Four, six, and eight bed dorms are available that are either mixed or female only. The bunks are generally comfortable and each bed has a reading light, outlet, and USB port. Linens are provided and there are security lockers for your belongings.

Twin private rooms as well as larger dorm rooms can be booked for those that want their own room, or for small groups.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms are clean and modern with excellent hot water. Many of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms, which is very convenient.
Restaurant
The hostel's on-site restaurant, The Dude, serves burgers, hot dogs, and other typical bar food late into the night. You can also head there for a cold beer and to hang out with other guests if you want to socialize. The prices are excellent and the food is pretty good too.
Common Areas
Guests really appreciate the common areas at this hostel. You can lounge in a hammock swing or curl up with a book on a sofa. There's also a cinema room with a wide range of movies to choose from. If you want to grab some food or drinks, head to the restaurant, or the very basic shared kitchen that's available to guests.
Outdoor Space
In addition to the indoor common areas, there's some outdoor seating with tables and chairs. It's a great place to hang out or enjoy a meal when the weather's nice.

Located on a student campus, this hostel is near a lot of activities and amenities including a supermarket, gym, and a pizza restaurant. The hostel is about 10 to 15 minutes by metro from the city center and Dam Square is 4 miles away. The Johan Cruijff Arena is also just over a mile away from the hostel.
Nearby Transportation
If you're arriving by train you can catch metro line 53 at Amsterdam Centraal Station. It'll take about 15 minutes to get to Venserpolder and from there you can walk to the hostel. If you're flying in, you can take a train to Diemen-Zuid Station and then it's a ten minute walk.

It's also possible to catch a bus from the city center. Either bus 287 or 285 can get you to the hostel in about 40 minutes.

This hostel has a variety of impromptu activities in the evening. From pool tournaments to casual parties, the evenings are a fun time to hang out with other guests and staff.

Staff

The staff here are very chill and accommodating. There are impromptu activities many evenings that make it fun to hang out with guests can employees alike. Some guests said the check-in process could be a bit disorganized, particularly on busy weekends, but the staff does their best to keep things running smoothly.

Heads Up

This hostel is a way outside of the city center, but it is accessible by metro. Some guests also complain that the Wi-Fi doesn't work well in the rooms.
