Located east of the province of Jujuy, 2936 meters above the sea, Humahuaca is the largest settlement before coming to the highlands and the border with Bolivia. Humahuaca has a large population, typical stone streets, and a quaint plaza and adobe houses. The town bears witness to its colonial past, in which the people resisted invasion and helped forge victory in times of struggle for independence. It is probably because of its history, its present, its museums, and its people, that Humahuaca retains great cultural importance in the endlessly colorful landscape of the gorge region. Among the icons you have to visit, there is the magnificent Hornocal, colored mountains, the monument of Heroes de Independencia, the Main Square and the church Virgen de la Candelaria.
