Is Dusseldorf worth visiting?

This city is a good place to visit for two to three days. Dusseldorf is located in western Germany and it's split by the Rhine River. On one side you'll find the city's old town (Altstadt) and on the other is a modern commercial district. The city has historic sights as well as Königsallee which is a popular shopping street. We first visited in the winter of 2023 and have returned several times. During our time here, we fell in love with the charming old town and the classic Christmas Market.

Reasons to Visit Dusseldorf

Food
You'll find a mix of regional specialties and international restaurant options. Traditional dishes include Rheinischer Sauerbraten (Rhine style marinated roast), Haxe (shin), Flönz (blood sausage), and Ähzezupp (pea soup).

Historical Sights
The old town is popular for its bars and pubs, which serve up the local altbier. The atmosphere is charming and there are restaurants that spill out onto the streets.

Museums
There are museums, palaces, and many cultural sights. Make sure you check out Schloss Benrath, the Rheinturm, the North Rhine-Westphalia Art Collection, and Museum Kunstpalast.

Nightlife
You'll find the highest concentration of bars and pubs in the old town area. Try to find a brewerie where you can try Dusseldorf's famous altbier.

Shopping
Head to the popular shopping street of Königsallee. You'll find luxury brands and boutique shops. The city also has department stores and large shopping malls.

Authenticity
Dusseldorf has an authentic vibe where you can experience local culture, cuisine, and activities without the large tourist crowds of other popular destinations.




Is Dusseldorf worth visiting in the Summer?

The high season for travel in Dusseldorf is the summer, so expect to see more tourists than usual. This destination is somewhat touristy, so in the high season it's usually busier.

You'll find the weather to be very nice here during summer with average temperatures around 19°C (66°F).

You'll also find it quite easy to get around on foot, because this is a very walkable city, especially in the nice weather. During this season it's fun to experience the famous sights and museums, the big city activities, and the historic old town. Also, you'll be able to take advantage of the local nightlife.
