During our first trip to Kuala Lumpur in the fall of 2009, we fell in love with its mix of cultures, rich diversity, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. We've been back several times since then to experience it even more.

Whether you're a traveling as a family, a couple, or a backpacker, this city has a lot to offer. Any local will tell you what makes it special is the great museums and amazing food.

Kuala Lumpur is loved by visitors for many reasons, and is routinely on national "best of" lists, including Forbes Best Places to Travel in 2023.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and its a cosmopolitan city with a modern and vibrant skyline. The city is a popular destination with backpackers, families, and international travelers who come to see the mix of cultures and dynamic neighborhoods. You'll find many colonial-era buildings as well as the striking Petronas Twin Towers, which offers an observation deck and viewing area.

5 Reasons to Visit Kuala Lumpur

1. Museums

The most notable landmark in the city is the famed Petronas Twin Towers, but other popular sights include Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur Tower, and the National Museum.

The food is influenced by the populations that live here and you'll find a lot of Malay, Chinese and Indian flavors. Spicy curries and noodle dishes are very common. I went through loads of free things while I was here. The KLCC park with the towers, the art museums, the botanical gardens, and Hindu temples were all free. And for just a small bit of money I went to some of the markets which were really culturaln and then did a trip to the Batu Caves.
