Yes, it's worth visiting this city for one to two days because of the many great activities. Winston-Salem is a medium-sized city in central North Carolina. It's home to Wake Forest University and Salem College. It's filled with a southern personality and a inviting atmosphere and visitors will enjoy a stop at the traditional Old Salem. We first visited in 2011 and have returned several times. During our time here, we fell in love with its beautiful college campuses and its historic areas.

Reasons to Visit Winston-Salem

Museums
Old Salem has a nice concentration of museums and gardens. Outside of the old town you'll find several art museums like the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts and the Reynolda House Museum of American Art.

Food
North Carolina barbecue is popular around town. The city is also the birthplace of Krispy Kreme donuts and during the holiday season you should sample the local Moravian Cookies.

Nightlife
Local breweries are popping up around town. You'll also find active nightlife venues near the colleges and universities.

Historical Sights
Nearby Old Salem is filled with historic museums, gardens, and restaurants. A ticket is required for most of the venues, but the atmosphere and architecture are charming.

Shopping
You'll find a mix of larger shopping malls, retail outlets, and shopping centers around town.

Authenticity
Winston-Salem has an authentic vibe where you can experience local culture, cuisine, and activities without the large tourist crowds of other popular destinations.

Summer is the high season for travel in Winston-Salem, so expect more visitors and higher prices. Even though this destination is not very touristy, in the high season it's busier than usual because this is when most visitors come here.

The weather in Winston-Salem is fairly warm during summer, and stays around 27°C (81°F). But it can get as warm as 33°C (91°F) at times, too. It's also quite rainy during this season, so be prepared.
