Hue is a popular tourist destination in the central region of Vietnam. It was also the former imperial capital and there are many historical sights in and around the city. The city's main geographic feature is the Perfume River (the Huong River) which divides the city into the older north side and the newer south side. The old city and the Citadel are all found on the north side of the river. Most of Hue's hotels and restaurants are on the south side. There's a pleasant promenade along the river and it's a nice place to take a stroll. The promenade is lined with several parks and sculptures. The tombs are also located further south in the outskirts of the city.

Hue has no shortage of affordable hotels, hostels, and guesthouses. There are also some larger, more expensive places to stay if you want a little more comfort and style. Many of the hostels and hotels are around the short lane of Pham Ngu Lao. This neighborhood has a bit of a backpacker and tourist vibe, so it's easy to find western restaurants and pubs if that's what you're looking for.
