Quiet, Safe, and Affordable Hostels in Guangzhou, China
The massive chaos that is a few hours north of Hong Kong is the city of Guangzhou. Don't let this Cantonese metropolis scare you away, though, as the city is steeped in both Chinese and European history, culture, shopping, restaurants, and more. The public transportation is good, and so is the food, so stick around for a while.

The awesomely named Lazy Gaga Hostel is also host to an awesome list of amenities. They have everything you need, and then some things that you didn't even realize you needed. First, the location is terrific, as it's right in the middle of the city, just a few minutes' walk to the metro, shops, restaurants, various sites and activities, and more. You just plain can't beat this location.
Dorms and private rooms are available, including a family sized room (or a room for larger groups). Dorm bunks are custom built and are quite wide and comfortable. Dorms also have custom built lockers for bags which include power outlets inside them so you can charge your electronics while they are locked up. (How cool is that?!?) Security is also taken seriously, as the key-card access makes sure that no one gets in.
The common areas are spacious and include plenty of activities. TVs, Wii, Wi-Fi, a large communal kitchen, games, books, pool table, foosball, and more. Hot showers, laundry, bike rental, tour booking, a mini-market, 24-hour desk, and luggage storage are also on the list of amenities. Basically, this place has a lot to offer, and the friendly staff can help with anything else you need.
Guest reviews are consistently positive, as the staff does everything it can to make you feel welcome. High marks are given for cleanliness, the fun social vibe, comfort, and the perfect location in the city.

In the heart of the city, near two metro stations and the Beijing Walking Road full of shops and restaurants lies this boutique hostel with a fun atmosphere.
Private rooms and dorms are available, all with ensuite bathrooms. Everything is kept clean and modern, as the staff goes out of their way to make sure everyone is comfortable. Dorms have nice bunks with plugs and TVs, and keycard access keeps everyone safe and secure.
Various room options are also available, such as circular beds, lofts, tatami beds, and more.
Free Wi-Fi is available. Communal cooking facilities are available, as are various common areas to relax and socialize. The onsite bar and restaurant can provide drinks and meals, and the mini-market is convenient, too. Also located in the hostel is laundry, luggage storage, tour booking, an elevator, and more.

This quiet YHA affiliated hostel is a great place to stay. Set in a quiet neighborhood by the river, and with rooms catering to all types of travelers from backpackers to families, everyone is welcome here, and everyone will be able to relax and rest here. Some restaurants and shops are nearby, as is the metro.
Private rooms and dorm bunks are available, all with ensuite bathrooms. Private rooms come in various sizes and have a hotel-like feel. Dorms are comfortable and modern, too.
Lockers are available, as is laundry, a great shared kitchen, pool table and spacious common areas, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and more. The onsite bar and restaurant provides drinks and meals, and the (mostly) friendly staff can help you navigate the city or plan your daily adventures in Guangzhou.

This hostel is a great option, as it is centrally located, has great amenities, and is fairly social. Being right in the middle of the city and very close to a metro station puts this hostel in a super convenient location that you can't find fault with at all.
The overall vibe of the hostel is fun and eclectic, as the wall art and furniture is fun and welcoming. Private rooms and dorms are available. Private rooms come in various sizes (including a family room). Dorm bunks have lights, outlets, and large lockers for bags which are very useful. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms.
Free Wi-Fi, and onsite restaurant and bar, and laundry are available, as is bike parking, car parking, hot showers, luggage storage, and a friendly staff to help you plan your trip.
Activities such as movie nights help keep the hostel social. The third floor terrace is a great spot to hang out and meet other travelers.
Guest reviews are consistently very good, but sometimes inconsistent due to cleanliness. The receive high marks for the location and comfort, though.
