Lindau is a city in southern Bavaria in Germany on the shore of Lake Constance or the Bodensee. It lies on the border to the Austrian federal-state of Vorarlberg and the nearby Austrian town of Bregenz is within walking distance. The historic town is actually an island and therefore technically called Lindau in Bodensee, (Lindau in Lake Constance).
