Yes, you'll find numerous reasons to visit Kaunas, and it's a city that everyone should see. We had an amazing time here. We first visited in 2011 and have returned several times. During our time here, we fell in love with wonderful atmosphere and feeling of authenticity.
Whether you're a traveling as a family or a backpacker, this city has a lot to offer. Any local will tell you what makes it special is the great food and amazing nightlife.
Kaunas sits at the confluence of the Neris and Nemunas Rivers. It's home to the Kaunas Castle and the Kaunas Cathedral Basilica. The city has a nice pedestrian area with treelined streets.

It is a great place to try traditional Lithuanian dishes as there are a number of good restaurants and an active restaurant scene. Popular local dishes include cepelinai potato dumplings and cold beetroot soup.

The nightlife scene continues to improve with a growing number of bars and clubs. During the warmer months you'll find many places opening outdoor areas. The old town is one of the more lively areas in town where it's nice to enjoy a drink on a terrace.

Summer is the high season for travel in Kaunas, so expect more visitors and higher prices. Even though this destination is not very touristy, in the high season it's busier than usual because this is when most visitors come here.

Things to Consider Before Visiting Kaunas
Shopping: Kaunas isn't exactly a shopper's destination. The old town is the place to pick up souvenirs, but there are also shopping malls and outlets in the city.
Getting Around
The area is not very walkable, and public transit is not great here, so it might be difficult to get around without arranging your own transportation.
