We loved visiting Lucerne and, yes, it's absolutely a city that any traveler should visit. By the end of our time here, it felt like a second home. During our first trip to Lucerne in the summer of 2022, we fell in love with its great swimming lake and easy access to Alpine peaks such as Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Titlis. We've been back several times since then to experience it even more.

Whether you're a traveling as a family or a couple, this city has a lot to offer. Any local will tell you what makes it special is the great museums and attractions and amazing nightlife.

Scenic Lucerne is famous for its beautiful Chapel Bridge and its tranquil lake. There are many restaurants along the water that offer great views and traditional food. A popular day trip out of town is to the stunning Mt. Titlis. Visitors can enjoy soaking up the Swiss beauty and delicious cuisine.

5 Reasons to Visit Lucerne

1. Museums and Attractions

Top sights in town include the famous Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument and the town walls and towers. There are also a number of museums including the Swiss Transport Museum and Museum Sammlung Rosengart.

The city has some of the best nightlife in Switzerland, with many lively clubs, bars, and pubs. There are also many local events that are hosted in town and bring in a crowd.

Sitting on the water's edge, this old town has a number of historic buildings and the beautiful Chapel Bridge.

The city is filled with high end shopping opportunities with everything from boutique shops to major chains. Popular items to purchase in town include chocolate, watches, jewelry, and Swiss army knives.

Food is expensive around town, but there are some unique specialties like fondue, brätwurst, and of course, chocolate. It's nice to sit out by the river and enjoy a hearty meal while you soak up the view.

What was your favorite thing about Lucerne?

We went swimming in the lake, and it was a cool experience to swim while looking out at the views of the city. The water was cold though, even during the summer.

Summer is the high season for travel in Lucerne, so expect more visitors and higher prices. This destination is quite touristy, so in the high season it's busier than usual. You'll see larger crowds and longer lines, as well as higher prices. On the other hand, there's plenty to see and do at this time of year because everything is open.

The warm weather in summer is one of the reasons people visit at this time of year. Temperatures average around 21°C (70°F) with daily high temperatures often more than 27°C (81°F).

You'll find plenty to do during summer, as you'll be able to browse through museums, discover the big city activities, and browse around the old town. Also, you can experience the nightlife.
