Family-Friendly, Luxurious, and Fun Beach Condos

Hilton Head Island is a terrific place for a family vacation or any type. No matter how young or old your kids are, Hilton Head offers plenty of activities for kids and adults alike. From the beach to swimming pools to golf or tennis, and putt-putt, dining, shopping, and dolphin cruises and zip line adventures, there's no shortage of reasons to visit this amazing beach destination on the Atlantic Coast of South Carolina. Hilton Head also makes a great multi-generational family vacation spot, as many families come with the grandparents or with multiple families traveling together.

I've been to Hilton Head many times, as I have grown up visiting the island every year since I was a kid. And now that I have a family of my own, my reasons for coming are still the same, although I have a different perspective on travel.

In my experience, some of the best places to stay for families with kids of any age on Hilton Head island are the Marriott Resorts. And yes, there are several of these fantastic and well-designed resorts on Hilton Head that are operated by the Marriott. And no, they are not just hotels, as you will soon see. All of the places we have described below are actually condo-style resorts where the accommodations are in the form of full condominiums with nice kitchens, multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms. They also have in-room laundry machines, balconies, and a number of other niceties.

And these resorts also have fantastic beach front locations along with swimming pools, on-site restaurants, kids activities, grills, bar service, and more. So, as you can see, these resorts are a fantastic way to enjoy a trip to Hilton Head because you'll be able to relax, enjoy your time at the beach and the pool, and stay at a safe and comfortable place during your next beach vacation.

Furthermore, it can often be hard to figure out how and where to book a condo at these resorts, as most of them are part of a timeshare program (the Marriott Vacation Club). It's actually possible to book many of them from private owners and property managers on VRBO. It's also sometimes possible to book them directly from Marriott's website, but the availability here seems to be limited in our experience unless you're already a member. Either way, we've provided the relevant links below.

Marriott's Barony Beach Club

This place is gorgeous. Located on the northern "heel" side of the island near Port Royal Plantation, this fun and relaxing resort sits right on the beach offers a number of luxurious and relaxing 2-bedroom condos, most of which have oceanfront balconies or ocean view balconies.

In the center you'll find several swimming pools, some of which are perfect for kids of all ages. There's a splash pad area for the little ones, a pool with a water slide for the kids, and a larger pool in the front by the beach. You'll also find several hot tubs, as well as an indoor pool.

The resort also offers an exercise room, the Namaste Spa, a kid's activity center, a bar, a restaurant, fire pits, shuffleboard, various lounge areas, and more.

The location is close to golf and tennis at Port Royal Plantation, too. It's also close to plenty of shopping areas, restaurants, and activities throughout the island.

Here's another condo option that will let you enjoy the resort. As all of the condos are the same (the only difference is the view), the price may vary based on dates, availability, and the view or floor of the unit.

Marriott's Grande Ocean Hilton Head

Located near Coligny Circle in the middle of the island, this large resort has plenty to offer in addition to it's amazing beachfront location which is also close to plenty of shopping and dining areas on the island.

In addition to the luxurious condos with full kitchens, living rooms, balconies, and multiple bedrooms, the resort offers plenty of amazing amenities. Starting with all of the swimming pools, kids and adults alike will be able to unwind and relax. And don't forget about the hot tubs, either! The resort also has a beach bar and a grill serving casual food. Up in the Crow's Nest you can unwind with a book or check out the views. Keep fit in the exercise room, or have the kids play in the children's activity center. There's also a putting green, shuffleboard, and bocce ball

Marriott Grande Ocean 2-Bedroom

As this resort is part of the Marriott Vacation Club, sometimes individual owners or property managers will lease out condos. This option on VRBO is a good and affordable way to stay at this resort without having to buy into the timeshare program.

Marriott's Surfwatch Resort

This one is popular, and for several good reasons. It's located in a central area of the island near Shelter Cove, but situated right on the beach. So by staying here you'll be close to plenty of shops and restaurants.

The resort is full of luxurious 2-bedroom condos featuring nice kitchens, large living rooms, and balconies overlooking the beautiful lagoon that wraps its way around the resort. As the resort sits a little back from the beach on a property that is fairly isolated from the busy surroundings, your walk out to the beach will be across a gorgeous stretch of marsh, dunes, and natural areas.

One swimming pool sits right in the middle of the resort along with a pool bar and casual restaurant. Another pool is down by the beach, too. And a third is indoors so you can swim any time of the year. Several hot tubs are also found around the property. You'll also find a putting green, a kid's activity center, an exercise room, and other fantastic amenities. This resort is one of our favorites!

Booking on VRBO lets you stay at the resort, as usually the property is only available to timeshare owners and Marriott Vacation Club owners. Some owners make their units available online so that you don't have to buy into the program to stay at this terrific resort.

Marriott's Monarch at Sea Pines

This beautiful property sits right on the beach towards the southern end of the island in the Sea Pines Plantation area. This is one of the smaller and more peaceful resorts that Marriott offers on Hilton Head Island, but it still has all of the quality comforts, high-end service, and full list of amenities that you would expect to find. As this is also one of the Marriott Vacation Club resorts, it's possible to book through VRBO or on Marriott.com when they have units available that are not already used by the timeshare owners.

This resort has 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom condos available that have full kitchens, large living rooms, balconies, in-room laundry, and plenty of modern comforts.

The resort offers several swimming pools which also include a fun splash pad for the younger kids. An exercise room, kids activities, games, grills, and other amenities are also found here as you would expect.

Marriott's Heritage Club

This resort is not located on the beach, but instead is situated right next to Harbour Town with its famous lighthouse, shops, restaurants, and golf courses. If golf, tennis, and exploring the island are more of what you like to do on vacation, then this gorgeous resort might be exactly what you're looking for.

The 2-bedroom villa-style condos have everything you could want, including a full kitchen, laundry, private bathrooms, a living room with a comfortable sofa and TV, and more.

The resort offers a swimming pool, hot tub, exercise room, grills, a game room with billiards, and a business center.

One of the best ways to book this resort is through VRBO below, as this resort is part of the Marriott Vacation Club which is a timeshare program.

Heritage Club 2-Bedroom

You'll be able to stay in a terrific 2-bedroom condo with all amenities, plus quick access to the shops and restaurants around Harbour Town.

Marriott's Harbour Point and Sunset Point, Shelter Cove

At the Shelter Cove Marina, located right in the middle of the island, you'll find plenty of delicous seafood restaurants, nice shops, outdoor music events, and a gorgeous marina full of sailboats. You'll also find this terrific resort full of 2-bedroom condos, each with a full kitchen, luxury amenities, in-room laundry, and more. With several swimming pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, an excersise room, grills, and outdoor lounge seating, anyone would be comfortable here. While it's not right on the beach, you can take a short drive to get to the sand and waves, plus anything else that Hilton Head Island has to offer.

Like many of the other Marriott resorts, if you're not a timeshare owner, you can book through a management company on VRBO.
