Yes, it's worth visiting this natural area for one to three days because of the many great activities. We first visited Big Sur in many times when we lived in San Francisco. During our time here, we fell in love with its unique beauty and stunning views at Pfeiffer Beach. Big Sur is a beautiful stretch of coastline that runs between Carmel and San Simeon. Visitors drive along a 2 lane road that weaves its way past beautiful cliffs and through impressive Redwood forests. The route is filled with stunning hikes and breathtaking beaches.

Reasons to Visit Big Sur

Beaches
The coastline and beaches are dramatic and beautiful, particularly Pfeiffer Beach, which has a dramatic waterfall. The water is filled with rip tides and strong currents, so swimming isn't advisable in most places.

Hiking
The dramatic hikes take you along the coastline, to beautiful beaches and through Redwood forests. There are a number of state parks along the route and some of the best hikes include Salmon Creek Trail, Pacific Valley Bluff Trail, and Ragged Point Cliffside Trail.

Food
Most of the restaurants offer a breathtaking view. Many use locally-sourced ingredients and they range in style from fine dining to casual eateries.




Is Big Sur worth visiting in the Summer?

Summer is the high season for travel in Big Sur, so expect more visitors and higher prices. This destination is quite touristy, so in the high season it's busier than usual. You'll see larger crowds and longer lines, as well as higher prices. On the other hand, there's plenty to see and do at this time of year because everything is open.

With the warmer weather, the beach is very popular this time of year. Spend time enjoying the waves and sand during your visit. The gorgeous scenery this time of year is the main attraction. Things to Consider Before Visiting Big Sur

Museums
Big Sur isn't a place that's filled with a huge number of sights and attractions. Nature is what brings visitors to the area, so most people don't prioritize museums or manmade landmarks.

Nightlife
Most people don't associate Big Sur with a lively nightlife scene. There's a taphouse and lounge, but the area is mostly undeveloped with no real nightlife.

Shopping
Big Sur isn't exactly a shopper's destination. There are some galleries and gift shops, but most visitors aren't in the area to go shopping.

Getting Around
The area is not very walkable, and public transit is not great here, so it might be difficult to get around without arranging your own transportation.
