Galveston is worth visiting for one to three days so that you can explore everything that the town has to offer. Galveston is an island and a city on the Gulf Coast of Texas. There's a charming Historic District that's filled with Victorian homes. There are also piers with amusement park rides and entertainment, as well as beaches and some good local restaurants. The city's history is tied closely to its port and trade industry. During our first trip to Galveston in 2011, we fell in love with it's historic character and authentic charm. We've come back several times since then to experience it even more.

Reasons to Visit Galveston

Museums
With its long history and Victorian homes, there are a number of museums around town. A favorite mansion is the 1892 Bishop's Palace. There's also the Galveston Railroad Museum and the Galveston Arts Center.

Nightlife
There's a bit of a party town vibe in the evenings. Head to Pleasure Pier for rides and entertainment. The town also has taverns, lounges, and bars that you can check out.

Food
There's a great mix of seafood and Texas favorites. Seafood-lovers will enjoy the oysters, crab cakes, and po boys while land-lovers will like the brisket, Tex Mex, and Texas chili.

Beaches
There are miles of beaches that spread out from town. Some of the best include Babe's Beach, Stewart Beach, and Crystal Beach. Because of the proximity to the Mississippi River, the water can be a bit murky, but the beaches are still fun.

Historical Sights
The East End Historic District is filled with historic mansions with beautiful porches. It's possible to take a tour or you could explore independently.

Shopping
There are plenty of places to pick up souvenirs like shell jewelry or t-shirts. There are also more eclectic shops as well as shopping centers and malls.

The warm weather in summer is one of the reasons people visit at this time of year. Temperatures average around 29°C (84°F) with daily high temperatures often more than 34°C (92°F).

The peak season for travel is summer in Galveston, so expect to see more tourists than usual. This destination is quite touristy, so in the high season it's busier than usual. You'll see larger crowds and longer lines, as well as higher prices. On the other hand, there's plenty to see and do at this time of year because everything is open.

This is a great time of year to relax at the beach, savor the small town atmosphere, and browse the museums. Also, you can experience the historic old town and the nightlife.

Autumn is the shoulder season for travel in Galveston. This destination is quite touristy, so in the shoulder season you'll still come across plenty of touriss. However, the prices tend to be a little cheaper.

Autumn is a great time of year to explore the numerous museums and landmarks around town. They are fun for the whole family as well great for couples. You'll find plenty to do during autumn, as you'll be able to browse around the old town, spend time at the museums, and explore the small town.

Is Galveston worth visiting in the Winter?

This is the low season for travel in Galveston. This destination is quite touristy, but in the low season you'll see fewer crowds and much better prices.

You'll find the weather to be very nice here during winter with average temperatures around 11°C (52°F).
