Hood River is worth visiting for two to three days so that you can explore everything that the town has to offer. Hood River is a charming town that is also a port on the Columbia River. It is surrounded by scenic natural landscapes and there is a local charm that attracts visitors from near and far. Visitors enjoy sampling local wines and exploring the Historic Columbia River Highway. During our first trip to Hood River in 2017, we fell in love with its local atmosphere and diverse scenery. We've come back several times since then to experience it even more.

Reasons to Visit Hood River

Food
Head to the downtown or waterfront areas for the best selection of restaurants. Most restaurants pride themselves on using local ingredients and supporting local farms. Dishes use fresh and healthy ingredients that make simple but high quality meals.

Hiking
There's a diversity of landscapes in the area that include waterfalls, agriculture, vineyards, and high-reaching mountain peaks. The best way to experience these is through the many hiking trails. Drive along the Historic Columbia River Highway and stop off at the trails that lead to the waterfalls, or head south of town to explore the vineyards on foot, and to the north where you'll find mountain peaks.

Skiing
During the winter months, Hood River makes a nice base for nearby skiing. Timberline and Cooper Spur and both less than an hour away and offer great skiing opportunities.

Nightlife
There are breweries, wineries, and local bars in the area that offer a laid back place where you can enjoy the local atmosphere.

Shopping
Local shops sell local produce, artisan crafts, and wine. There are boutiques and independent vendors that are fun to visit and many visitors enjoy spending an afternoon shopping.




Is Hood River worth visiting in the Summer?

The warm weather in summer is one of the reasons people visit at this time of year. Temperatures average around 20°C (68°F) with daily high temperatures often more than 27°C (80°F).

The peak season for travel is summer in Hood River, so expect to see more tourists than usual. This destination is quite touristy, so in the high season it's busier than usual. You'll see larger crowds and longer lines, as well as higher prices. On the other hand, there's plenty to see and do at this time of year because everything is open.

The nearby hiking this time of year is a must-do, so take some time to get out on the trails, take in some fresh air, and enjoy the scenery. This is a great time of year to discover the nearby hiking trails and enjoy an evening out.

Is Hood River worth visiting in the Autumn?

Autumn is the shoulder season for travel in Hood River. This destination is quite touristy, so in the shoulder season you'll still come across plenty of touriss. However, the prices tend to be a little cheaper.

You'll find the weather to be very nice here during autumn with average temperatures around 13°C (55°F).

Is Hood River worth visiting in the Winter?

This is the low season for travel in Hood River. This destination is quite touristy, but in the low season you'll see fewer crowds and much better prices.

The weather in Hood River can be quite cold during winter, and averages around 4°C (40°F). But be prepared for much lower temperatures, too.

During this season it's fun to experience the snow skiing, the cuisine, and the nightlife.

The scenery of the town this time of year is absolutely beautiful. Admire the gardens, parks, and fantastic architecture, too. This is a great time of year to browse the shops, take in the beautiful scenery, and enjoy the evening activities.

Things to Consider Before Visiting Hood River

Museums: Hood River isn't a place that's filled with a huge number of sights and attractions. There are a couple of interesting museums in town such as the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automoblie Museum, the History Museum, and 301 Gallery.

Getting Around
The area is not very walkable, and public transit is not great here, so it might be difficult to get around without arranging your own transportation.
