Is Jekyll Island worth visiting?

Yes, it's worth visiting this island for two to four days because of the many great activities. During our first trip to Jekyll Island in 2000, we fell in love with its quiet setting and beautiful beaches. We've come back several times since then to experience it even more. Jekyll Island is a small island off the coast of Georgia. There's a state park on the island as well as golf, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and ten miles of beaches. It's a quiet destination that's perfect for vacationers who want to escape the crowds.

Reasons to Visit Jekyll Island

Beaches
Unspoiled beaches are the biggest draw. Some areas are rocky, but the beaches are peaceful and perfect for walks if you want to get away from the crowds. Much of the island is a state park, so it's undeveloped and pristine.

Hiking
The state park has some trails that are nice. There are also beach walks, bike trails, and routes that take you through historic sites.

Museums
Mosaic is the history museum on the island. The museum also offers historic tours of the area's sites. The Historic District is a popular place to visit with its well-maintained historic cottages and other structures.

Authenticity
Jekyll Island has an authentic vibe where you can experience local culture, cuisine, and activities without the large tourist crowds of other popular destinations.




Is Jekyll Island worth visiting in the Summer?

Summer is the high season for travel in Jekyll Island, so expect more visitors and higher prices. This destination is fairly touristy, and in the high season it's busier than usual.

The weather in Jekyll Island is fairly warm during summer, and stays around 28°C (82°F). But it can get as warm as 33°C (92°F) at times, too. It's also quite rainy during this season, so be prepared.

With the warmer weather, the beach is very popular this time of year. Spend time enjoying the waves and sand during your visit. The nearby hiking this time of year is a must-do, so take some time to get out on the trails, take in some fresh air, and enjoy the scenery. You'll find plenty to do during summer, as you'll be able to lounge on the beach, discover the nearby hiking trails, and browse through museums.

This is the shoulder season for travel in Jekyll Island. Even though Jekyll Island is fairly busy with tourists, in the shoulder season there will be smaller crowds and better prices.

The warm weather in autumn is one of the reasons people visit at this time of year. Temperatures average around 21°C (70°F) with daily high temperatures often more than 27°C (80°F).

During this season it's fun to experience the famous sights and museums and the hiking.

Things to Consider Before Visiting Jekyll Island

Nightlife
Most people don't associate Jekyll Island with a lively nightlife scene. There are sunset cruises, but otherwise the nightlife scene is quiet.

Food: Jekyll Island doesn't top the list for most foodies. Many restaurants are casual with low country dishes or fried seafood. You'll find some brunch places as well as cafes and quick dining eateries around town.

Shopping: Jekyll Island isn't exactly a shopper's destination. You'll find a few gift shops and boutiques, but in general, shopping options are limited.

Getting Around
The area is not very walkable, and public transit is not great here, so it might be difficult to get around without arranging your own transportation.
