Yes, it's worth visiting this island for five to seven days because of the many great activities. We first visited Key Largo in our childhood and returned several times as adults. During our time here, we fell in love with the wonderful snorkeling and marine mammal encounters. Key Largo is the first island you'll reach off the Florida Keys. It's popular for its snorkeling and scuba diving around John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and many visitors stop here enroute further south. There are also many unique opportunities to experience wildlife on this island and it's an easy to take a day trip to the Everglades from here. It's often mentioned as one of the best places to visit in major publications, such as in American Express's Best Travel Destinations of 2023.

Reasons to Visit Key Largo

Resorts
Popular resorts in the area include Playa Largo Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection, Reefhouse Resort & Marina, and Largo Resort.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling
Near this island you'll find some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Florida Keys at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. There are private tours that head out to the reef for either snorkeling or diving. There are also shipwrecks and other fascinating spots to explore.

Beaches
Many of the beaches around Key Largo are man-made, but they do offer nice sand and beautiful blue water. The water is turquoise, although not as striking as further south.

Things to Consider Before Visiting Key Largo

Food: Key Largo doesn't top the list for most foodies. Like the rest of the Florida Keys, Key Largo is known for its Key Lime pie and seafood. You'll find a great selection of restaurants that serve seafood dishes and options for the land-loving crew. There are even a few international restaurants to choose from.

Nightlife: Most people don't associate Key Largo with a lively nightlife scene. This area is not known for its nightlife, so you'll need to head further south if partying is your style.

Getting Around
The area is not very walkable, and public transit is not great here, so it might be difficult to get around without arranging your own transportation.
