Yes, New York City is definitely worth visiting for numerous reasons. Its a city that everyone should see, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We first visited New York City in early childhood and then visited many times over the years. During our time here, we fell in love with its atmosphere as an international and diverse city with iconic buildings, beautiful parks, and award-winning restaurants.
Whether you're a traveling as a family, a couple, or a backpacker, this city has a lot to offer. Any local will tell you what makes it special is the great museums and attractions and amazing theatre productions.
New York City is loved by visitors for many reasons, and is routinely on national "best of" lists, including U.S. News Worlds Best Places to Go in 2023.
New York City is one of the most iconic cities in the United States. It is filled with its own energy and personality, and visitors will enjoy exploring the unique neighborhoods and seeing world-renowned landmarks. The sights and museums around the city are too numerous to list, but some of the most famous include the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, Central Park, and the Empire State Building. The high season for travel in New York City is the summer, so expect to see more tourists than usual. This is an extremely popular destination, and in the high season it's busier than usual as this is when most people are able to travel. Expect large crowds of tourists, longer lines, and higher prices for hotels. On the other hand, you'll find that everything is open and you'll have a wide array of activities, things to do, and places to eat. NYC is a popular destination in the summer, but it can be a bit hot and crowded.
The weather in New York City is fairly warm during summer, and stays around 25°C (77°F). But it can get as warm as 30°C (86°F) at times, too. It's also quite rainy during this season, so be prepared.
The activities of the city are numerous, and this is a great time of year to explore all of them. Although it's cold, winter in NYC is beautiful and both Christmas and New Years Eve attract a crowd.
The weather in New York City can be quite cold during winter, and averages around -1°C (31°F). But be prepared for much lower temperatures, too.
You'll like that you can take public transit easily in the winter, too. You can get around quickly while avoiding bad weather if needed. You'll find plenty to do during winter, as you'll be able to browse through museums, spend an evening at the theatre, and enjoy a meal at a restaurant. Also, you can experience the nightlife, the live music, and the big city activities.

Why would you recommend New York City to budget travelers? Or, why not?
It's an iconic city and, while it's expensive, it's still possible to find hostels and affdable things to do.
It's not cheap, but definitely one of those not-to-be-missed international cities. We stayed in Brooklyn at a reasonably priced hotel and ate at slightly cheaper restaurants.
What makes New York City a budget-friendly destination? Or not?
Most people think that New York is expensive to visit, but it's one of the few American cities with hostels. We loved staying in a hostel here. There's also public transit and plenty of free activities around town.
How can you save money during your time in New York City?
We stayed in a hotel outside of Manhattan in Long Island City to save money. There were also some cheaper restaurants in this area too, so we didn't eat every meal in the more expensive areas of the city. Taking the subway was by far the best decision, too.
What was your favorite thing about New York City?
We always see a show when we pass through New York. By the tickets the day of and you'll get a great rate. You have to be flexible with what you see though.
I love that there are so many different sides to NYC! There's the shows, shopping, parks, and museums, so nobody will ever be bored.
