Is Santa Cruz worth visiting?

This town is a good place to visit for one to two days. Located on the central coastline in California, Santa Cruz is a quintessential beach town. There's a classic boardwalk with traditional rides, a charming downtown, and plenty of shops and cafes. The beaches are beautiful and the rugged coastline is fun to explore. We first visited in 2009 and have returned several times. During our time here, we fell in love with its traditional beach town atmosphere and laid back vibe.

Reasons to Visit Santa Cruz

Nightlife
You'll find a range of nighttime options around town that include live entertainment, bars, clubs, and even a casino.

Beaches
The beaches are beautiful and fun. Head to Main Beach for the most activity. This is where you'll find the town's boardwalk, which has a historic carousel and several classic amusement rides. For a more peaceful and scenic spot, check out Natural Bridges State Beach or Seacliff State Beach.

Museums
Local museums in town include the Surfing Museum, Seymour Marine Discovery Center, and Santa Cruz Mission.

Food
Sampling local seafood is a top priority for many visitors. Most restaurants have a casual vibe and serve up high quality dishes in a relaxed setting. You'll find cafes, Mexican food, and Italian eateries among other options.

Hiking
There are several great parks in the area and trails that follow along the rugged coastline or go through the impressive redwood forests.

Downtown Santa Cruz is where you'll find some of the best shopping.




Is Santa Cruz worth visiting in the Summer?

The high season for travel in Santa Cruz is the summer, so expect to see more tourists than usual. This destination is quite popular with tourists, and in the high season it's even busier than usual as this is when most people like to visit. Expect crowds to be large, and prices to be a bit higher than normal. However, there's plenty to do here this time of year, too.

With the warmer weather this time of year, the beach is the main attraction. Spend time enjoying the waves and sand during your trip. You'll also find it quite easy to get around on foot, because this is a very walkable town, especially in the nice weather. During this season it's fun to experience the beaches, the hiking, and the famous sights and museums. Also, you can enjoy an evening out.
