Plan Smarter: Introducing Our AI Travel Planner

You are currently viewing Plan Smarter: Introducing Our AI Travel Planner

At Budget Your Trip, we’ve spent years helping travelers plan better trips with clear budget data and travel insights from destinations all over the world. Now, we’re taking travel planning to the next level with something new—and seriously powerful.

We’ve built a Custom GPT: an AI-powered travel assistant trained to help you plan your next adventure based on your budget, travel style, and personal preferences. Whether you’re looking to explore Europe by train, backpack across Southeast Asia, or book a family trip to the beach, our AI Travel Planner can guide you every step of the way.

Getting Started Is Easy

All you need is a ChatGPT account (even a free one). You don’t need to install anything, download an app, or create a new account. Just log into ChatGPT and click the link to access our AI Travel Planner. It’s as simple as that.

Want a quick walkthrough before you dive in? We’ve created a short YouTube video to show you exactly how it works. In under two minutes, you’ll learn how to access the planner, ask your first question, and start planning your dream trip. Or, you can keep track of our updates on the AI page of our website here.

How It Works

What makes our travel assistant different from a regular chatbot or search engine?

It’s powered by ChatGPT, one of the most advanced AI systems available today—but we’ve customized it specifically for travelers. We’ve trained and tuned it using data from Budget Your Trip, including:

  • Average travel costs for hundreds of destinations
  • City and country-level budget guides
  • Hotel cost data with prices, amenities, and location data
  • Data about activities, sights, tours, ticket prices, landmarks, and attractions (with prices)
  • Local insights about transportation options

This means the AI can provide not just general suggestions, but budget-aware, style-specific advice. Want a relaxing week in Italy for under $1500? Prefer city-hopping with a backpack and public transport? The planner can factor all that in and recommend an itinerary that makes sense for you.

What It Can Do

The AI Travel Planner isn’t just a fancy Q&A tool—it’s your personal trip assistant. Here’s what it can do for you:

Suggest Where to Go

Not sure where to travel next? The planner can suggest destinations based on your preferred travel dates, budget, weather preferences, or travel style (e.g., solo, family, romantic).

Build Full Itineraries

Ask it to create a day-by-day itinerary for 7 days in Japan, or a 2-week road trip through France. You’ll get a suggested route, activities, transit tips, and budgeting details.

Find Hotels and Accommodation

Need a hotel with a pool, under $100/night, near the city center? Done. The planner will recommend options based on location, amenities, and your budget.

Discover Tours and Activities

Looking for food tours, guided hikes, cultural experiences, or kid-friendly activities? Just ask. The planner can point you toward experiences you’d likely enjoy—and even structure your day around them.

Plan Affordably

Since it’s built with Budget Your Trip data, the planner understands travel costs. It can help you estimate daily expenses, compare destination affordability, and avoid unexpected overspending.

What It Does Not Do

Not long ago, we wrote about the influence of AI on the internet and how it relates to our website, and you can read it here: Is this AI?

The AI does not fabricate, guess, speculate, nor “find” the travel costs. Instead, it gets the data directly from our huge repository of human-created travel cost information. Our travel costs do not come from AI – they come from real people who are actually traveling. Anyone can sign up for an account on our website to enter their travel expenses. Those expenses are anonymously averaged and aggregated to formulate the average travel costs for destinations around the world. The data comes from humans. It’s run through some mathematical and statistical formulas. Then, it gets published on the website.

Our new AI is trained on this data so that it can answer questions about travel costs. The AI does not make up the travel costs. Instead, it can help you find the data faster, and apply the data to more complex questions, such as “what destinations are less than $2000 per week?”

What’s Next: The Future of AI Travel Planning

We’re just getting started. This Custom GPT is our first public step into AI-assisted travel, and we’re already working on exciting updates:

  • Embedded AI Planners on Our Website
Soon, you’ll be able to chat with the AI directly on budgetyourtrip.com—no need to go through ChatGPT. We’re building custom itinerary builders, hotel finders, and more.
  • Smarter Flight & Transportation Searches
We’re exploring integrations for real-time flight searches, bus schedules, train routes, and more, so the AI can help you not just plan, but book smarter.
  • Personalized Profiles
Imagine saving your preferences once—like preferred airlines, hotel types, or dietary restrictions—and having the AI remember that for every future trip. We’re working on it.
