Approximately 15,000 people were killed, 12,000 were injured and around 35,000 people were left homeless. They began rebuilding the city center on a grid system, making it easy for today's visitors to navigate and get around this city. The new city is full of boulevards with cafes and a mix of 1960s and classic Moroccan architecture. Today, the city is still growing and welcomes European vacationers to its resort destinations.
