Agadir is a city with a long and tragic past. In 1960 the city suffered from an earthquake, destroying the city including the ancient Kasbah. Approximately 15,000 people were killed, 12,000 were injured and around 35,000 people were left homeless. They began rebuilding the city center on a grid system, making it easy for today's visitors to navigate and get around this city. The new city is full of boulevards with cafes and a mix of 1960s and classic Moroccan architecture. Today, the city is still growing and welcomes European vacationers to its resort destinations.
