Travel Tips for South Africa

Speeding Tickets and Traffic Violations

By backpackguru on Nov 27, 2011 in Local Transportation
Police in South Africa take speeding very seriously, so even when you're in rural areas, you should watch your vehicle's speed. In remote areas your speed is usually tracked by radar and a fine is mailed to the registered address of your vehicle. In some cases you can pay the fine on the spot by going to a nearby police station. Don't get careless with your driving because the last thing you want to deal with is a traffic violation in a foreign country. It really is more hassle than it's worth.

South Africa is about Diversity

By Laurie on Feb 17, 2012
Many people head to South Africa with a specific goal. Maybe they want to do a safari. Maybe they're interested in the cities, or diving with sharks, or perhaps the history. The best way to truly enjoy South Africa is to arrive with an open mind and expect experiences that are beyond what you're most enthusiastic for. Step outside your comfort zone, because South Africa truly has so much to offer. Give yourself plenty of time for a safari because, after all, it is South Africa, but even if you're not a city person, head to Cape Town. Not a history buff? You still shouldn't pass up some of the museums. Hang out on the beaches some and step outside of the touristy areas and get to know some locals. Try a restaurant that is off the beaten path. Wander into an "undiscovered" area, and by all means, swim with the sharks!!
