a&o Amsterdam Zuidoost

a&o Amsterdam Zuidoost is part of a larger hostel chain. It is reliable and clean, but has the vibe of a chain hotel that can feel a bit corporate. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds and quiet rooms, as well as the shared kitchen.

The hostel is located a bit outside of the city center, but it's a very short walk to the metro, which will have you in town in about 20 to 30 minutes.

The Facilities

Dorms
This hostel has 4, 6, and 8 bed dorms that are all accessible by elevator. Mixed and female only rooms are available and each has its own ensuite bathroom. Do note that linens are not included in the price of the room, so bring your own or rent some at the reception area. Towels are also available for rent. The rooms are very clean and modern.
Private Rooms
This hostel has a range of private rooms to choose from. Whether you're traveling with friends, family, as a couple, or even alone, there's something for you. Solo travelers appreciate the single room option while families and groups of friends often go for the quad or family sized rooms. Rooms usually come with a combination of single beds and bunk beds.

Head to the lounge if you want to watch a game on the large television or just relax and use the Wi-Fi. The hostel also has a guest kitchen that you can use to prepare meals. It's a great money saver if you don't want to spend too much in Amsterdam's expensive restaurants. There are also vending machines if all you need is a quick snack or drink.

What's Nearby?
Located in the Bullewijk District, this hostel is conveniently located just half a mile from Amsterdam Arena. It's about a 15 minute walk or 5 minutes away on the train. If you're in town to see the tourist sights, the hostel is about a 30 mintue metro ride from the most popular sights in Amsterdam. This includes Dam Square, the Royal Palace, the Anne Frank House, and the Van Gogh Museum.

The neighborhood immediately around the hostel feels very safe and most guests are comfortable walking around. There are a lot of office buildings in the area with some restaurants nearby as well.
Nearby Transportation
You can reach the hostel in about 25 minutes from the airport. Take a bus toward Bijlmer ArenA and then it's just a 10 minute walk from the stop. If you arrive by train, Centraal Station is just a 20 minute metro ride. Take the 54 to Bullewijk. If you arrive at the Sloterdijk Bus Station, take metro 50 to reach the hostel in 30 minutes.

This is a large chain hostel with the standard amenities available to guests. There's Wi-Fi access, laundry facilities, vending machines, and a secure building. Parking is also available nearby. Breakfast is available for a price. It's a filling breakfast, but a bit more expensive than you might pay at other hostels. Linens are also not included in the price of the dorm rooms.

Staff

This is a large hostel that hires professional staff. They sometimes get overwhelmed but the number of people passing through and some guests have complained about room mix-ups during check-in. But the staff is available 24 hours a day and work promptly to address any concerns that arise.

Heads Up

Some guests feel that this hostel lacks a bit of character. It feels very corporate and is pretty far outside the city center, although public transit is easily accessible. Groups have also complained that they were split between several rooms.
