Stayokay Amsterdam Stadsdoelen

Stayokay Amsterdam is a no frills hostel that offers basic rooms at a good price. The central location can't be beat. You can walk to most of the tourist attractions around town including Dam Square, the Red Light District, and the Royal Palace.

The staff here are friendly and helpful. There's a cafe and bar on-site where you can grab a bite to eat. There's also a pool table if you want to challenge your friends to a game.

The Facilities

Dorms

This hostel has smaller dorms that sleep 5 or larger dorms that sleep up to 20 people, with everything in between. The price includes free linens and a reading light with each bunks. The rooms are basic with no real furnishings, but the price is cheap and the mattresses are decent. Some of the rooms have views that look out on the canals. Security lockers for your belongings are available right outside the room in the hallway.

Bathrooms

Shared bathrooms are available right outside the rooms in the hallway. There's enough showers to accommodate the crowd and the bathrooms are cleaned frequently. Towels are available for rent if you didn't bring one.

Restaurant

There's a small cafe and bar available on-site where you can grab a quick breakfast to go. It's perfect to eat outside or on your way to your day's adventures. The bar is a nice place to hang out but it closes around 11 PM so it's not a place you go for a party.

What's Nearby?

Located right in Amsterdam's city center, this hostel is about a 15 minute walk from the Red Light District, Dam Square and Centraal Station. The Royal Palace is about 10 minutes away on foot as is the Flower Market and Rembrandtplein. The area immediately around the hostel has plenty of restaurants and shopping that you can enjoy.

Nearby Transportation

Head to Centraal Station, about a 15 minute walk away, to catch a train to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The ride takes about 20 minutes. Because this hostel is right in the middle of everything, you really can walk most places, so one you arrive you won't use public transit very much.

The hostel organizes a variety of activities for guests, but they can be hit or miss as to whether they actually happen. Ask when you arrive if there are any activities going on during your visit.

Staff

The staff here are friendly and helpful. This is a low key hostel with a very mellow vibe. They keep things clean and comfortable, and will address any concerns regarding cleanliness (or anything else) promptly.

Heads Up

This hostel is all about value for the money. It's not a particularly social hostel and there definitely isn't a party vibe. Most guests stick to themselves during their stay.
