What sets them apart?
This hostel is affordable, comfortable, and large. It was recently renovated in 2018 and the facilities feel very modern and clean. It's a popular option with large groups including school and tour groups, but there are still enough personalized amenities and a rooftop bar that keep things fun and social for all types of travelers. The hostel's affordable price and diversity of rooms attract a wide variety of travelers, so whatever your purpose for visiting Barcelona, this hostel is a good option.
Who's staying here?
This hostel is great for larger groups. It's particularly popular with school groups, but it's large and diverse enough that any type of group could be comfortable here. The hostel also has it's designated "pink rooms" which are female-only and offer vanities, hairdryers, and hair straighteners.
The restaurants in the hostel's neighborhood are very affordable and good so grab a meal before you head into the more expensive touristy areas.
Urbany Hostel Barcelona
If you're looking for affordability with a variety of amenities, then this hostel is a good option. It appeals to a wide range of travelers, and its large size makes it popular with larger groups. The staff is very familiar with handling large school groups and tour groups, and the hostel is set up to keep things moving smoothly.
Even if you're not traveling with a group, you will still enjoy the rooftop bar, the various common areas, and the many social activities that the hostel organizes. The affordability of this hostel appeals to many types of people, so it's easy to meet other travelers from around the world of all ages.
Dorms here have either four, six, or eight beds. Each room is air conditioned and stays nice and cool even on the warmest Mediterranean nights. There's also heating for the winter months. The rooms are very secure with keycard locks on each door. Rooms also have ensuite bathrooms so you can skip the hassle of hauling your shower stuff down the hall.
If you're a girl looking for a little more class and a space away from the guys, the female only "Pink Rooms"
may be more your style. The rooms offer vanity mirrors, hair straighteners, and hair dryers, and a reassurance of knowing you're in a female-only room.
If you want a bit more privacy, there are single, twin, three, and four bed private rooms available. These rooms feel a bit more like hotel rooms and each has its own ensuite bathroom. These rooms are perfect for small groups, families, or anybody who wants a bit of personal space.
Every room offers an ensuite bathroom. The bathrooms are a decent size by European standards and they are kept clean. The showers are push button, which means you have to push the button when the water times off. This is pretty common for hostels in Barcelona and it does help conserve water, but can be a bit annoying during your shower.
This hostel has a rooftop bar where you can enjoy the warm Mediterranean evenings with a cold drink in hand. The views look out over Barcelona and the staff organizes regular activities that keep guests entertained and socializing. To ensure that the fun stays safe for everyone, the bar is limited to adults only.
This is a large hostel so you'd expect plenty of common space, and you won't be disappointed. The hostel also has a large indoor lounge area with a pool table and a television. There's comfortable furniture where you can curl up and watch a movie or read a book. Occasional Karaoke nights are organized here as well. On the same floor you'll find an outdoor terrace where the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet is served every morning (for an additional price).
If you're planning to cook some of your own meals, this hostel also has a fully equipped shared kitchen and a dining area.
This hostel is located in the Santi Marti neighborhood of Barcelona. It's located right between the beach (a little over a mile away) and Sagrada Familia, which is about a 20 minute walk away (or just two stops on the metro). It's just a five minute walk to Glories Shopping Center where you can pick up anything you might need.
Many of the city's more popular landmarks, including Tivoli Theatre, Placa Catalunya, and Placa Reial are a little over a mile away, but fortunately this hostel is well connected to the metro and commuter train network.
Public transportation is easily accessible from the Urbany hostel. The closest metro stop is El Clot metro and train station, which is just 1,000 feet away (300m). This station has the airport train line as well as two metro lines, so you can get pretty much anywhere in Barcelona quickly and conveniently. The city center is five stops away, which takes 15 minutes, and the same time on a bus. Not far away you'll find Placa de Catalunya and Las Ramblas. Sagrada Familia is only two stops away. If you're headed out on the town for the night, there's also a night bus which stops right next to the hostel.
The Urbany hostel staff organizes a handful of activities for guests including movie nights in the lounge, pub crawls out on the town, or activities at the rooftop bar. Many guests enjoy just hanging out and chatting, but there are often other things going on so make sure you ask the staff about events when you arrive.
This is a large hostel with all of the perks you would expect in a European hostel. The staff are familiar with managing large groups, so the delicious breakfast is set up to handle a large crowd. They can also provide packed lunches for your day out on the town.
They also offer all of the standard amenities you'd expect including wi-fi, public computers, luggage storage, and security lockers. There's an elevator as well to help you haul your luggage up to your room.
The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Because the hostel is used to handling large groups, they keep things moving smoothly and efficiently. It's a larger hostel, so you may not get the personal attention you'd expect at a smaller hostel, but the size also means that the amenities are plentiful and the price is affordable.
This hostel was renovated in 2018 and has raised the quality of its facilities, so many of the prior concerns with the age and quality of the building have been addressed. Still, some people expressed concerns with the smaller size of the rooms. Others mention that the location of the hostel is a bit outside of the city center (but easily accessible by metro). The hostel also hosts larger groups which is convenient if you're part of one of those groups, but might be annoying if you're traveling on your own.
