Toc Hostel Madrid
Part of the small TOC chain of hostels throughout Spain, this establishment provides some very modern and comfortable rooms along with plenty of nice common areas. Oh, and did we mention that it's in the exact center of the city? As it's only a few minutes walk to Sol and many other attractions, this is an ideal place to base yourself for a thorough exploration of Spain's capital.
The Facilities
Dorms
Dorms here are modern, clean, and comfortable. With custom-built bunk beds that are spacious and well-made, anyone can find comforts here. The rooms also provide other furniture for convenience, such as tables, desks, and chairs. Some, but not all, rooms have ensuite bathrooms. Beds have individual lights and plugs for convenience, too. The room sizes are upwards of 8 beds, and several all-female dorms are also provided. The rooms themselves have plenty of space to move around in, perhaps with the exception of the very top floor which has angled-roof ceilings. Dorm rooms have security lockers to keep your items secure, too.
Private Rooms
Private rooms at the TOC Hostel Madrid are on par with affordable hotel rooms in Madrid. They offer plenty of conveniences as well as ensuite bathrooms. Double rooms with larger beds are provided for couples or families, and if you have a larger group then you can get a private bunk-style dorm room.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms here are modern and clean, although some guests have claimed that it's hard for the staff to keep up with the cleanliness during busier weekends. The facilities are modern with plenty of hot water. Shampoo and soap are provided, too.
Restaurant
The hostel has a restaurant and bar area which is a nice spot to grab a meal, relax with friends, and have a drink. The food is pretty good, and breakfast is served for a small fee.
Common Areas
Several public common areas can be found in this hostel. In addition to the restaurant and bar area, some other lounge areas with sofas and chairs make a nice spot to chat or read a book. A room with a pool table is provided near the bar for entertainment as well.
The Location
Centro
Centro, or downtown Madrid, offers visitors a central location, lively plazas, plenty of shopping, and no shortage of entertainment. The area is filled with people, both local and foreign, who are exploring the neighborhood's great restaurants, hitting up some of the most popular shopping streets, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of street performers and a colorful atmosphere.
What's Nearby?
You can't get a better location than this! Just a few blocks from Sol, and within walking distance to everything in the middle of Madrid, this hostel is set up very nicely as a base for exploration. Within a few minutes' walk you can be in La Latina, the Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, and various museums. So many resturants, bars, shopping areas, theaters, and historical sights are just around the corner.
Nearby Transportation
The Sol station is very close, and it's on of the main interchanges for the Metro system in Madrid. From here you can get anywhere in the city in just a few stops.
Amenities
With plenty of modern conveniences, this hostel is quite comfortable. From Wi-Fi to laundry to baggage storage, they offer everything a guest could need. They also offer modest kitchen facilities for those guests that want to cook their own meals. Hair dryers, key-card access to the rooms, an elevator, TVs, and bike rental are just a few more of the services provided.
Staff
The staff have received mixed reviews here. As this is a large hostel, some guests say that they have struggled to keep up with the overall level of activity to keep the hostel running. On the other hand, many have said that the hostel staff is friendly, fun, and helpful.
Heads Up
Many guests have said that this hostel has the feel of a hotel and lacks a social atmosphere. While some guests have said it is social, it is definitely not a party hostel. So if you're looking for more activity, perhaps look elsewhere. On the flip side, if you're looking for an affordable and convenient place to stay with plenty of nice amenities, this is the hostel for you.
