August in France
When you're planning your vacation to France, remember that most French take off for the month of August for their own vacations. These means many of the smaller shops close up completely for the month. If it's a touristy place, things will likely stay open, but if you plan to step outside of the most popular destinations, this could pose a problem.
Mountain areas are most popular during two peak seasons. During the winter months they fill up with skiers, while in the summer months they cater to hikers and sightseers.
