North Conway On a Budget
Sights
In the winter, popular places to visit include the Cranmore Mountain ski resort, Attitash ski resort (in Bartlett), and the Black Mountain ski resort at the northern end of the valley (near the town of Jackson).In summer, plenty of sights and activities can be found in the towns in the valley. Check out the popular outlet malls in the area for good bargains on shopping. The quaint town of North Conway is a nice area to stroll around if you're visiting the shops and restaurants in the town.
For a fun outdoor experience, visit Diana's Baths where you can see (and swim in) the beautiful waterfalls coming down the mountain. Or check out the amazing views from Cathedral Ledge.
Mount Washington itself is worth a visit. While hiking is popular, many visitors take the Mount Washington Cog Railway to the top for the historic experience and amazing views.
Neighborhoods
The Mt. Washington Valley region can driven through in around an hour or less, depending on your destination. Heading north from Conway, you'll first come to the town of North Conway. Cranmore ski resort is just to the east of the town. Continue heading north and then follow the main highway around the curve to the west to get to Attitash Mountain. Or, head north towards Jackson (past Story Land amusement park) to Black Mountain ski resort. Continue along route 16 to the north to reach Mount Washington state park.Activities
A variety of popular activities and things to do in North Conway and Mount Washington Valley should all be on your list if you plan to visit this amazing area.The Conway Scenic Railroad is a great way to ride the rails, get a historical experience, and have fun for the whole family.
Kids and adults alike love the Story Time amusement park. Other kids activities include visiting the Kahuna Laguna indoor water park, the various laser tag places, and more. Attitash Mountain has a downhill mountain coaster, too.
Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking, river tubing, fishing, and bird watching are all popular activities in the warmer months, too.
In the winter, skiing and snowboarding are popular at Cranmore Mountain ski resort, Attitash ski resort, Black Mountain ski resort, or Wildcat Mountain ski resort. In the other state park areas, visitors can go snowshoeing, cross country skiing, back country skiing, snowmobiling, or even dogsledding.
As you can see, there's no shortage of activities around the Mount Washington Valley.
Food and Dining
Restaurants and bars can be found in most of the village areas. Grocery stores are also within easy reach.Popular restaurants in North Conway include Pricilla's, Peach's (for breakfast), Vito Marcello's Italian, Chef's Bistro, and Deacon Street. Several chain and fast food options are also available around the town.
Transportation
The nearest major airports are in Portland, Maine, and Boston.North Conway is about 1.5 hours by car from Portland, and 3 hours from Boston.
As with most places in the U.S., a car is highly recommended if you're visiting the North Conway and MWV areas.
However, Concord Coach Lines runs a service from Portland's airport and Boston's airport to the Eastern Slope Inn (located in the center of North Conway).
Once in the villages and ski resort areas, most places can be reached on foot.
