Affordable Travel in Europe
As the smallest of all the continents and with 27 countries located within the European Union alone, Europe offers a variety of travel experiences for both long and short visits. Stretching from Lisbon to Istanbul, Europe is crammed with sights and streets that have been shaped by more than 3000 years of human civilisation. These cities are living, breathing reminders of the past, filled with stories just waiting to be heard. Europe culture has so much to offer. Nowhere is history as abundant and palpable as it is in Europe. Each backstreet and hidden corner here has been a witness to an amazing past. Paris. Rome. Barcelona. Berlin. From the snow-capped mountains of the Swiss Alps, to the golden charm of the Italian coastline. Europe is home to some of the world's greatest cities and filled with breathtaking views. You'll find everything here, from culture and fabulous history to outstanding nightlife, mouthwatering food, picturesque villages, and charming atmosphere. This variety of architecture, landscapes, climates and historical reference points within Europe, means that nearly anyone could find something to enjoy. With new trends and fashions and a constant influx of immigration, these dynamic metropolises are constantly reinventing themselves. It is also very easy to get around European countries, as most have had time to perfect urban planning and get public transport under control. Travelers can enjoy a variety of sights including artworks, shopping, famous landmarks, delicious foods, medieval architecture and relaxing in in a relatively short space of time. The extensive European railway system makes travel between countries convenient and often an enjoyable aspect of a vacation. Thanks to budget airlines, you can now easily fly from one country to another but most of the time, travelling around Europe by train is even cheaper and enables you to discover the countryside. Europe is home to some of the world's fashion capitals. This makes high street shopping even more exciting than usual. Whether you're a keen rocker, a jazz fan, or an electronic music lover, Europe prides itself with the best, biggest, and most varied calendar of but also film festivals, comedy festivals, arts festivals, food, wine and beer festivals. Whether a planned itinerary includes several stops or is focused on a single location, a trip to Europe can provide experiences and memories to last a lifetime. Europe is jam-packed with tantalizing foodie experiences. You may find yourself addicted to warm, melt-in-your mouth french croissants and pain au chocolat, alfresco Italian seafood spaghetti, or Spain's tapas bars.
Depending on where you go, and how you travel; the trip can be relatively cheap or expensive. Obviously, a backpacker who's travelling through Eastern Europe or in Andalucia is going to spend a lot less than someone who's living the high life in London or travels through the Scandinavian countries, which tend to be fairly expensive. Switzerland is a rich country and Zurich is its very-rich main city, so the hotel and restaurant scenes are dominated by business travelers and those on expense accounts. If you plan a trip to Iceland, don't linger in the capital longer than you have to. The appeal of Iceland is the amazing scenery and Reykjavik is not a budget-friendly destination. Accommodation and food on the rest of the island are also fairly expensive, but the whole island is stunning and almost everything else is free once you get there. London is famously pricey, but it's also a weird one for budget travelers since it actually has somewhat affordable hostels outside of peak season, and all the major museums are actually free. Stockholm is a beautiful city that you will really enjoy for a few days, as long as you can afford it. Copenhagen, the Danish capital, is also one of the famously expensive Scandinavian cities.
While Europe's cities and capitals hog the headlines, the countryside and smaller villages are much cheaper and many travellers actually fall in love with these less-famous spots. Despite being one of the most popular cities in Europe, Barcelona's prices are surprisingly low. Another amazingly cheap city, considering how important its sights are, is Rome. Paris is notoriously expensive, particularly to drink, but it's not all bad news. Hotels can be affordable, and you can eat an excellent and reasonably cheap meal if you dig a little bit to find the right places. Munich comes in cheaper than perhaps expected because many of its sights are free. Prague is excellent value for money, though you need to walk away from the tourist traps to get local prices. You might be surprised to find that Berlin is a relatively cheap capital, but that's what being divided by the Berlin Wall for so long does to a city. However, cities in Europe that are particularly cheap include Kiev, Krakow, Belgrade, Bucharest, Sofia, Budapest, Istanbul and Warsaw.
